It’s officially time to break out the knee high boots and chunky sweaters. With the temperatures continuing to drop, these two wardrobe essentials are becoming more and more of a staple. Luckily, you don’t have to break the bank to achieve great style.
Taking style inspirations from fashion bloggers is one of the most fun ways to stay fashionable and put together.
These bloggers help us in seeing how a piece of clothing looks on in a real woman’s body and also inspires us to think outside of the fashion box, try new things and empower us to break some fashion rules.
Winter seems to add another level of complexity in looking cute. It is that season where you’ll just have to add a couple of necessary but most times difficult to put together outfits into your fashion looks.
All these because you have to keep yourself warm but nos so warm that you find yourself sweating 7 o’clock in the morning. As confusing as it might get sometimes, it is possible to look both stylish and equally comfortable with your outfits every single day.
All it requires is a little bit of inspiration and creativity. Let’s go and see what is in store for you when it comes to choosing the right apparel for the season of snow!
Run the show with some cool blazers
Who doesn’t love a good blazer?! Blazers are one of my favorite garments for many reasons. First, we all love how they are so classic and timeless. All of us have blazers in our closets that were bought years ago that are still relevant and stylish to this day.
We also love how blazers can so easily be dressed up or down. Long gone are the days where blazers are solely for the workplace. Now, blazers can be worn just about anywhere from casual outings with sneakers to girls night out in heels.
With winter almost upon us, all of us without a doubt will need a signature blazer to rock during the winters. Colors will be key while choosing blazers and we have a few color options up our sleeves.
We love the color mustard in the winters. It’s rich, vibrant and definitely makes an entrance. Mustard pairs so well with other fall and winter colors and prints, such as this leopard print that I’m rocking. Olive, teal, burgundy all blend seamlessly with this color.
Get comfy with a variety of sweaters in your closet
So of course, one of the main garments that we will all be reaching for is a nice, comfy sweater. There are so many brands and stores that have a selection of sweaters so soft that you just want to wrap yourself in it all day long. They do casual basics so well and they are pieces that you can wear season after season.
Although minimal, we have a feeling you will love the color beige as the go to color of the sweater that you opt and then you can match it with a layered tank top. It’s muted but still looks chic.
There are several must-haves that you need in your wardrobe that include a great pair of skinny jeans, and LBD, etc. But what’s sometimes overlooked is a versatile sweater. Because it’s a blank canvas, you can wear it with just about anything. Jeans, skirts, dresses, booties or heels – it all works!
Layers are not a luxury
Winter is such a fun season to dress for, but sometimes, just like in the summertime, you end up either too cold or too hot once you reach your destination.
Fashionistas that are informed of fashion trends know that the trick to keeping comfy and looking fabulous is yep, you guessed it, luxe layers!
Always opt for plus size winter outfits that involve either simple or complex layering of your clothes, whether it involves a camisole under an open-weave sweater or piling on a decorative scarf over your favorite embroidered tunic.
Layering is more of an art than a science by being resourceful, you can usually rummage through your closet and use what you have on hand to create an inspired ensemble.
We suggest choosing separates that can easily coordinate for an endless variety of mix-and-match layering options. Once you’ve mastered the art of winter dressing, you will learn to layer your clothes in a manner that is not only practical for the weather, but highlights (not hide) your curvy silhouette.
You also can use layers to cover up when you are outside and reveal your silhouette as you remove your coat or a bulky sweater, which are usually on the top layer or two. Remember: when wearing layers, it’s all in the details!
If you’re wearing a top coat, you can jazz up your attire with a brooch or a decorative silk scarf for maximum impact.
Cardigans are among the most popular winter clothes
This season, opt for bold yet feminine plaid cardigans and layer on your personal style with this on-trend pattern.
If you’re searching for unique winter styles for plus size women, may we suggest a beautiful cardigan in navy, featuring a sophisticated yet flattering cut in cool shades of navy, plum and mauve, this cardi will keep you toasty & looking fabulous during the frigid months!
We also love cardigans in the color teal boasting a rich jewel-toned teal that’s reminiscent of the cooler temps, a romantic layering piece is sure to become one of your wardrobe staples this winter.
Featuring a sheer lace upper bodice with a stunning floral pattern, this silhouette-savvy cardi boasts elegant tailoring throughout, including a peplum-inspired detail at the waist and belled sleeves for even more dramatic flair.
Layered over a cream three-quarter length piko top and form-fitting leggings burgundy, the styling options for this exquisite cardigan are virtually endless!
Having discussed some of the outfit styles, here are a few points to remember before choosing the outfits for winter season. As a plus size lady, a little bit of extra caution is required when looking up to buy a new set of clothes.
Layer With Care
As we’ve discussed, layering is somewhat of an art form – you don’t want to just pile on random articles of clothing. Choose silhouettes that work with one another.
For example, if you’re wearing a cold-shoulder shirt, be sure that the layer worn over it has long sleeves as wearing a sleeveless vest can look awkward and ill-fitting.
For styling long or short coats, be sure that the shirt or blouse you’re wearing underneath it is shorter than the coat, wearing a tunic or top that is much longer than the coat length tends to look sloppy.
Also, balance is key when creating a figure-flattering outfit and avoid wearing clothing that’s either too baggy or too tight on your top and bottom layer.
For example, if you’re wearing loose, flowing palazzo pants, opt for a more streamlined top; if you’re wearing a slouchy sweater, choose leggings or skinny jeans to complement your look.
Know Your Body Type
Remember to dress for your figure. With so many fashionable options, curvy ladies don’t need to hide their physique! Don’t opt for baggy, shapeless or oversized clothing; this will only make you appear bigger and detract from your sexy curves and waist.
Instead, determine your body type (in other words, if you’re a pear-shape, apple shape, or hourglass) and dress accordingly. If you happen to be very busty, be sure to find a bra that supports you in order to ensure your clothing fits properly.
If you’re thicker around the midsection, tunic style blouses may be the most flattering option for you. For shorter women, try to avoid very long styles (such as maxi dresses, which can make you appear even shorter and not flatter your figure).
If you can, find a good tailor in the event that you need your clothing altered (such as pants or skirts hemmed) this is particularly important if you work in a corporate environment, as ill-fitting garments can project a less-than-professional appearance.
Overall, finding your personal aesthetic can be achieved through trial and error, but always remember to enjoy the journey, be comfortable in your own skin and own your curves!
Winters can be harsh because of the high drop in temperatures and the arrival of certain skin problems like dry skin, clothing is a way to take your mind off such things.
While as a plus size lady it is a little difficult to choose the right clothing, there is always a huge confusion about what to buy with such a wide variety of clothes. Keep off the pressure and wear what suits you the best.
Winter is coming, best get ready to see it through with some classy and comfortable clothing options.
