Tacoma’s own, Tara Lynn graced this world on July 26th, 1982, and since then has only made upward strides in her life. This beautiful babe from the state of Washington has carved out a name for herself as a graceful lingerie and plus size model.
Along with lingerie she has also garnered huge success as a plus size clothes model and has through her work, gone on to show that you are not required to be slim to become successful and make it big as a model.
This 37-year-old is among the most recognizable plus size models slaying it on the circuit at the moment.
She graduated with a degree in languages and speaks fluent French and Arabic and she also knows a bit Spanish thanks to matters of love. She loves Bulgari but recently she’s gone mad over Christian Dior.
Of course, she adores Marina Rinaldi, who was the first brand to really appreciate the shape of curvy women. Tara Lynn drew attention in the fashion world after being featured in V and in the French Elle’s plus-size fashion shoot.
She has also appeared on the cover of the June 2011 Vogue Italia on the Spanish July 2010 XL-Semanal, in Elle-Québec, and in Time magazine in 2010.
She has also been featured in Glamour. She appeared on the covers of various issues of Lucky Fall Jeans’ promotional magazine.
Lynn has appeared in advertisements for H&M as well and that has added to her growing forte and formidable work resume.
When Lynn was the cover girl for Elle, the picture was accompanied by the tagline ‘The Body’ implying that hers is the shape women should aspire to – rather than a slim figure.
Since then, Lynn has become one of the faces of plus-size modeling. In an interview she admitted to being bullied at as a teenager: ‘I was a size 14/16 (UK size 18-20) in high school, and it wasn’t the easiest thing.
As a 16, I definitely felt like my weight was holding me back. I was supposed to have these bones protruding from my body and clearly that’s not the case, and not the way my body’s meant to be.’
Throughout her modeling career, she credits the agencies she has signed with to have had a great impact on her work and progress. They have been with her through the thick and thin of her career and have helped bring out the best in her, professionally as well as in the public eye.
As her work takes her to multiple cities and countries all across the world, Tara Lynn has multiple agencies working for her. Among her representations are IMG Models who represent her in New York, Paris, Milan, London, and Sydney.
Francina Models represents her in Barcelona, while Heffner Management represents her in Seattle, a city that has been her hometown although she now calls New Jersey her home. Tara Lynn hasn’t looked back in her modeling career so far and is very much focused on what lies ahead of her as she should.
What makes Tara Lynn possibly different from other models her age is the way she looks so age-defying right now.
One of the secrets she believes behind this she believes is the fact that when she’s working she’s as confident as she looks in the photos, because it’s a set of skills she’s honed over more than a decade in the business and because she had a mom who loved her unconditionally.
The body-positive community helps, too. At other times, she’s like everyone else, some days she looks in the mirror and feels fab, other days not as much. She believes everyone should have these not-so-good days sometimes to make them appreciate the good times when they arrive.
She recently turned out for the very coveted Sports Illustrated issue and was a part of their 41-picture spread online. What makes this achievement so incredible is the fact that she appeared as a model for Sports Illustrated after becoming a mother and that too twice.
Lynn said with her new platform the message she wants to get across the most is that “we should all love and respect our bodies. They are our home. We should love and respect the beauty in each other, too.”
Lynn said if being an “older” swimsuit model has taught her anything, it’s that she can say no. While she intends to ride any wave of real choice offers, she believes that she still has a lot more to give back to the field that brought her into the limelight.
Lynn, once she was chosen to become a part of the Sports Illustrated issue called being chosen as a rookie model “exciting” and “fun,” especially because like other models in this year’s issue she doesn’t fit the concept of what a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model should be.
She likes hiking with her children when she’s home, and cultivating a love of nature in them. When she learned she was going to be a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue model, she had the idea to create her swimsuit for charity. Apart from that, She likes to wear comfortable clothes. During the day she wears flat shoes or trainers but in the evening she prefers to put on heels. Her favorite piece of clothing is a simple H&M dress.
Why her career is so exemplary and should be talked about more often than it is, is because of what she has achieved. Being bullied and still having the confidence to do what you love is no mean thing.
Add the fact that she is doing some of her best work after being a mother to two kids is an even bigger feat. It promotes the thought of not letting situations take control of you, rather you breaking the situation with your will.
Tara Lynn still has some years of work left in her, by her own admission and it will be great to see what she chooses to do next.
